Michael Goldstein

Today, I learned that a friend of my boyfriends and someone that I usually saw at parties and some of my friend's houses passed away. It was something that caught everyone off gaurd and is just an awful, sad, terrible thing that happened. Words can not describe it. The reason why I am blogging this is becuase I found out about this terrible tragedy and so did my boyfriend on Facebook. We then had to call friends to confirm.
This made me sick to my stomach. What has this world come to? I found out awful information through Facebook instead of a phone call?

Can you think of anything awful that has happened which you found out on Facebook?

Rest In Peace Michael Goldstein you are missed.

"When Couples Fight on Facebook, Everyone Knows the Score" Article

So, after weeks of think about it, I have decided to write my argumentive essay on how Facebook can add pressure to relationships. Yes I know everyone was at the edge of their seats wondering what I was going to write my paper on! However, while I was looking for different articles I found some really good..and sort of crazy stories.. I found one about a woman who actually had to DELETE her Facebook because it was causing so much drama between her and her husband. Do most people think that if Facebook is causing drama in your relationship maybe YOU TWO need to delete your RELATIONSHIP and NOT your Facebook? Or is it just me? Anyways, I found one story that I thought was sort of intresting. Its a New York Times article about a couple who are engaged and publicly fight on Facebook (which some how ties in with my last post) These two seem to go AT IT on Facebook which makes everyone (including their family) see how the relationship is going..and might I add the fighting Facebook couple is in the middle of planning their weeding. However, I think this couple finds it some what amusing that they publicly display their fights.. Take a look and see what you think

Facebook=Brake up?

I have been hearing a lot of "drama" from my friends about how much Facebook has recently been messing up their relationship.

Here is what happened: One of my close friends got into a fight with her boyfriend because he was writting on a girl's facebook picture. Now this was not just any "hey cool picture" it was more about what he had done in the past with this person. Not like "we had a great relationship" more along the lines of sexual stuff they had done in the past. Due to this facebook comment it caused a huge fight between my close friend and her boyfriend which led to them "breaking up" (when i say "breaking up") I mean breaking up for about two hours. During this two hour period my close friend changed her Facebook relationship status from "in a relationship" to "single." This then caused a BIGGER problem between the couple becuase her boyfriend (ex-boyfriend for five mintues) was extremely upset that she would make it "Facebook offical" (Becuase apperiently if you make it Facebook offical when you break up then that means you are REALLY BROKEN UP)

This made me start thinking, 1) Should you be Facebook friends with your siginificant other? and 2) Does Facebook affect your realtionship?

My answer for these two questions are 1) I think you should be Facebook friends with your siginificant other becuase well of course you will probably stalk their facebook but also you should learn how to trust your girlfriend/boyfriend/husband or wife. However, I think each relationship maybe should talk about what they might get upset about if they see (such as comments on other girls facebook pictures talking about sexual activites they have had in the past with them) I think this may help the relationship. Also I do believe Facebook effects your relationship..a lot. But that will be a different Blog =]

Facebook Knows Me Better Then My Boyfriend...

"Hot shoes just 39.95"
One of the first ads that always comes up on my facebook is a shoe add which says "Join Kim Kardashians Shoe Serves 39.95 a pair. Free shipping. Shoedazzel.com" I believe that this ad comes up on my Facebook a lot because I always "like" many kinds of shoe brands on my facebook. I LOVE high heel shoes and any other types of shoes. I also LOVE Kim Kardashian and all of the Kardashian sisters (including Kris). So I think Facebook picked up on all of my "likes" and decided to show an ad that I might browse threw. I believe that Facebook knows me very well becuase I actually clicked on this ad and am in the process of purchase a pair of cute high heels that I found on this website. I think Facebook knows me very well, which is kind of odd. However, it is understandable due to the amount of shoe brands that I "like" on Facebook.

"Yardsellr New York Yankees Block"
Another ad that I see very often is a New York Yankees ad. I believe it is made by a Facebook acount which posts different Yankee merchandise that you can buy. The Facebook user uploads Yankee Merchandise which you can then purchese. Kind of like Ebay. I actually found this a really cool ad and I was not suprised at all when the ad came up on my facebook. I am a die hard Yankees fan who has "liked" almost every New York Yankees player from Paul O'Neil to Bernie Williams. I think that Facebook knew that I would look at this add becuase I "like" almost ever Yankee thing that is possible.

"College Living at UNCC"
The last ad that comes up a lot on my Facebook is an ad for "The Edge" which is a name of an apartment complex that is right beside the Unversity of North Carolina in Charlotte. This ad comes up a lot on my Facebook I believe becuase I live in Charlotte North Carolina which my Facebook is aware of. Also, I have a lot of friends who live in the apartment complex who have probably "liked" the apartment ccomplex.

I believe that my Facebook keeps tabs about me, what I "like" and also what my friends "like" and picks the ads to show me. This is a very smart idea and helps ads get out more. I can honestly say I look a lot more at the ads on Facebook becuase they usually relate to me more which is smart of Facebook. If Facebook just showed me random ads that did not relate to me in any way then I do not believe that I would ever glance at the ads. So they are really smart to key into my likes and dislikes.
